Terbium is a silvery-gray, malleable, soft and ductile rare earth element which can be cut by a knife. Terbium is relatively stable in air. It is never found in nature as a free element, however it is readily found in minerals such as cerite, gadolinite, and euxenite. Terbium compounds are highly fluorescent and are frequently used to produce green phosphors.
